Richard and Karen (Raffel) Miller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 30, 2018. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City by the Rev. Richard Krugler.
Rick and Karen met in 1966 at a dinner hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City while both were students at Northwestern Michigan College. Thus began their journey with dedication to each other, to their family and to serving their community and their church.
Raised in a loving, Christian home, their three children are Charles Miller, of Detroit, Jennifer (Vincent) Gaubert, of Versailles, France, and Joel Miller (Katie Hauser), of Traverse City. They have two treasured grandchildren, Pascale and Julien Gaubert, and a cherished bond with Jeremiah Hauser. During the busy years of parenting they also dedicated their hearts and time to caring for their two mothers after their fathers passed away. They made sure that both grandmothers were well cared for and actively involved in family events, large and small. This special relationship and the care they demonstrated enriched their family beyond measure.
They are active members of St. Michael's Church, where Rick faithfully serves as an elder and Karen as an organizer of the Food Bank. She also serves on the Martha Guild and lends her special organizational and decorating talents to many church events. Rick worked for more than 30 years in the local office furniture industry and is known and sought after around the region as a skilled, dependable furniture restorer and handyman. Karen served the community as a nurse and later in home health administration during a 35 year career at Munson Medical Center.
A private celebration will be hosted by their children in July.
