JoAnn and Gerald Medler Celebrate 50th Anniversary

A private family gathering will be held on May 20 to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Gerald and Jo Ann Medler, of Northport.
They met 50 years ago on Feb. 10, 1968 at a Singles Ski weekend at Traverse City Mt. Holiday. They were married 12 weeks later at the First Congregational Church in Lansing by the Reverend Charles Goudey on May 10, 1968.
The former Jo Ann Smith is a retired teacher who taught literature and history at Walter French Junior High School in Lansing, Traverse Junior High, Traverse City East Junior High and Traverse City Central High School, from which she retired in 2004. Jerry worked as an occupational safety consultant for the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) until his retirement in 2003 after 38 years of service. Both earned advanced degrees from Michigan State University.
They have lived on Northport Bay for 14 years and are the parents of four wonderful children, Kimberly Ann (Darrell Phelps), of Harbor Springs, Matthew Medler, (Katie Tavener), of Traverse City, Kristi Jo Medler, of Northport, and Kathryn (Aaron Sahs), of Northport. They have nine precious grandchildren who have all been a big part of their lives in retirement and have brought them great joy, Andrew, of Harbor Springs, Maddison, Taven and Rowen, of Traverse City, Olivia Marie and Bailie Rose, Wyatt, Conner and Riley, all of Northport.
